Commercial Moving: Frequently Asked Questions

Moving is a unique experience.

People don't move very often so they have many questions. We have heard almost every possible question and the following are the most frequently asked:

Q: Where are you located?
A: Isaac’s has offices in both the greater Boston and Philadelphia areas, with agents around the country. We provide local moving in both areas and long distance moving to 48 states.

Q: Does your company pack?
A: We provide packing services either on the day of the move or the day before (depending on the circumstances). If you choose to pack, we can deliver boxes to you before move day if you need them. There is no charge for the delivery.

Q: Do you charge for materials?
A: We charge for any moving materials that you request or that are used by the crew (boxes, packing paper, tape, etc.)

Q: What exactly is travel time?
A: In a local move, travel time is the total time it takes us to get to and from the job site(s). This may be charged as actual running time, or it may be charged as a flat time. It does not include the time to drive from your old location to your new location. (this is considered moving time.) Your Isaac’s representative will explain the applicable travel charges.

Q: Do the movers come with boxes on the truck?
A: Our crews come fully prepared for any circumstances that might develop. If you need boxes or other materials, we will have them available at the jobsite.

Q: Can clothes be left in drawers?
A: In general, we recommend that you unload items from all bureaus, desks, dressers, etc.. Doing so will make the movers job easier and also prevent damage. For small, light dressers, leaving light clothes in the drawers should be fine (use your best judgment).

Q: Can we help move?
A: For local moves which are charged by the hour, anything you do to help will usually cut down on the total time of the move. For long distance moves which have a flat price, the best way to save money is to pack efficiently before hand. In general, it is best to be well prepared and organized for the move (packing, labeling, etc.), and then let the crew do their job efficiently on move day.

Q: Can we ride inside the truck?
A: For insurance reasons we cannot transport you to your new location. We ask that you arrange for your own transportation beforehand.

Q: Do you do hoisting?
A: Isaac’s is a moving company and not a hoisting specialist. For difficult hoisting jobs (pianos, etc.) you should arrange for a specialist to do the job at a time when it does not interfere with the rest of the move. We work with hoisting specialists regularly and will be glad to refer you to one if you need it.

Q: Can you move plants?
A: We are forbidden by law to transport plants across state lines. We can move plants locally, however we cannot guarantee their safety. In general, we recommend that you transport plants in your car if possible.
